• The complex, located in the municipality of Taltal in the Antofagasta Region, has an installed capacity of 557 MW and combines wind and solar power generation with battery storage.

The Wayra project, developed by EDF power solutions Chile, received its Environmental Qualification Resolution (RCA) after being unanimously approved by the Antofagasta Region’s Environmental Assessment Commission.

This initiative involves the construction and operation of a power plant that generates electricity from non-conventional renewable energy sources, with an installed capacity of 557 MW. The complex will combine wind and solar power generation with a battery energy storage system, with a maximum capacity of approximately 750 MWh, which will provide greater flexibility to the power system and facilitate the integration of renewable energy.

Wayra will be located in the municipality of Taltal, in the Antofagasta Region, within the Taltal Wind Reserve Zone, covering an area of approximately 278 hectares.

Joan Leal, CEO of EDF power solutions Chile, stated that “obtaining the RCA for Wayra is a milestone that represents an important step for EDF power solutions in Chile. “This hybrid project, which integrates solar, wind, and storage technologies, is fully aligned with our goal of developing large-scale innovative solutions to deliver safe, renewable energy to our customers and provide flexibility to the power grid, thereby advancing a sustainable and responsible energy transition.”

With this environmental approval, Wayra is now in a position to move forward with the next stages of its development, helping to strengthen EDF power solutions’ presence in the country and continue to promote initiatives that bring renewable energy and greater flexibility to the power grid.
